This review examined the role of salivary inflammatory biomarkers—IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α, and alpha-amylase—in post-odontectomy swelling. Analysis of 10 clinical studies showed that levels of these biomarkers rise after surgery, correlating with increased swelling, pain, and stress. Elevations result from tissue manipulation, immune cell recruitment, and vascular changes. The study highlights the potential of these biomarkers for monitoring post-odontectomy inflammation and recommends further research to identify the most reliable salivary indicators.
