Clinical and Esthetic Outcomes of Anodized Titanium Abutments: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials

This systematic review evaluated anodized titanium dental implant abutments, which modify titanium’s surface color to improve esthetics. Across nine RCTs, anodized abutments—especially pink tones—enhanced soft tissue aesthetics and color harmony, particularly in patients with thin gingiva. However, clinical improvements in inflammation, plaque, or mucosal recession were minimal and inconsistent. While anodization is safe and visually beneficial, its functional clinical advantages remain uncertain, warranting further long-term research.
