Description of Saliva Cortisol Levels In Indonesia Navy Soldiers Before and after Using Virtual Reality Dental Hypnosis Tool

This study examined the effect of virtual reality dental hypnosis (VRDH) on dental anxiety in Indonesian military personnel by measuring salivary cortisol levels. Using a single-blind randomized controlled trial with 22 participants, most individuals in both intervention and control groups showed decreased cortisol levels after the intervention. The intervention group, however, showed a wider range […]

Age Estimation of Pawon Man from Pulp Volume using Cone Beam Computed Tomography 3D Method and Dental DNA Methylation on ELOVL2 Gene

This study estimated the age at death of Pawon Man using two methods: 3D pulp volume analysis from CBCT scans and DNA methylation of the ELOVL2 gene. CBCT-based ages were 30.7 and 17.0 years, while DNA methylation gave 34.6 and 17.8 years, showing notable differences between methods. The study highlights the variability in age estimation

Dental morphometric analysis through orthopantomogram (OPG): potential in determining sex and age in the Indonesian population

This study investigated the use of dental measurements to estimate age and sex in the Indonesian population. Using 230 digital dental X-rays, the researchers measured total tooth length (TTL), root length (RL), crown length (CL), and pulp-tooth ratio (PTR). They found that TTL, RL, and CL were significantly related to sex, while PTR was strongly

Evaluation of radiation planning in the development of acute radiation oral mucositis in head and neck cancer patients: A case series

This case series of four head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy showed that radiation planning using the Treatment Planning System (TPS) can predict oral mucositis severity based on isodose curves. Patients developed grade 2–4 mucositis, candidiasis, and taste loss, managed with hyaluronic acid mouthwash, multivitamins, and antifungals. TPS proved useful for anticipating and managing

Integrated Endodontic and Restorative Management of C-Shaped Canals with Severe Coronal Loss in Mandibular Second Molar: A Case Report

This case report describes successful endodontic treatment of a mandibular second molar with a complex C-shaped canal and severe structural loss in a 49-year-old woman. CBCT was essential for diagnosis and planning, and treatment involved advanced instruments, ultrasonic irrigation, and modern restoration with zirconia. The case highlights the value of CBCT and careful technique in

Lower Serum IL-10 Linked to Oral Manifestationsin Diabetes Patients

This study compared IL-10 serum levels in non-diabetic patients and diabetic patients with and without oral manifestations. Results showed that diabetic patients with oral manifestations had the lowest IL-10 levels, suggesting reduced anti-inflammatory response and higher risk of oral complications. Monitoring IL-10 may help identify at-risk diabetic patients. Oral Opportunistic Infection Induced by Stress and Silent Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Young Adult Patient A Case Report

This case report describes a 34-year-old man with silent type 2 diabetes and stress, who developed oral opportunistic infections including candidiasis, recurrent intraoral herpes, and cheilitis. Combined antifungal, antiviral, and supportive therapy with diabetes management led to significant improvement. The case highlights how undiagnosed diabetes and stress can weaken immunity and trigger oral opportunistic infections.

Pharmacological and low-level laser therapy in radiation-induced oral mucositis in patients with head and neck cancer

This case report presents a 54-year-old tongue cancer patient who developed grade-3 oral mucositis after radiotherapy. Treatment with hyaluronic acid mouthwash and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) reduced pain and improved healing, showing the effectiveness of combining pharmacological therapy with LLLT in managing oral mucositis. Viral Involvement in Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders: A Scoping Review

This scoping review analyzed 28 studies (2014–2023) on viruses associated with oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) beyond HPV and EBV. Findings showed a high prevalence of viral detection (78.57%), including HPV, EBV, HBV, and HSV, with tobacco use identified as the main risk factor. Viruses were more often detected in malignant stages (OSCC) than in
